GARDEN OPEN CARRIAGE. MOSCOW, 1730
CloseThe two-seater open carriage is executed for Empress Anna Ioannovna in the 1730s in Russia. Though the exact place where it was made is unknown, the carriage is considered to be executed in the Kremlin workshops. Image of Anna Ioannovna and her monogram painted on the walls of the carriage testify of its belonging to the Empress. The form of the carriage is very sophisticated. Smooth curves of the body, relief carved shells, floral curls and paintings trace the features of the Baroque style. Modest dimensions and unordinary wide rims of the carriage were likely to have been intended for making rides at the court garden more comfortable.
